Salem Bus Routes Update for Halloween

On Tuesday, October 31st, we will be running fewer 4:15 and 5:45 pm late run stops to Salem.  Instead, we will run late buses to Salem State College, Highland Avenue, Boston Street, and Bridge Street only.  Our 2:30 pm routes will run to all regular stops.  Please contact our Transportation Manager, Kathy Russo at krusso@essextech.net if you have questions.

Late Buses

We continue to struggle with the late buses and wanted to provide clarification again.

  • 4:15 pm late buses are available to students who stay after school for extra help, after-school support in the Media Center, extra-curricular activities, sports, or detention only.
  • 5:45 pm late buses are for students in Drama Club and sports.
  • Students must sign up for the 4:15 and 5:45 Late Buses by 9:15 am every day that they need a ride.
  • After 9:15 am, the routes are planned and we cannot add stops.
  • Students cannot wait for the late bus and expect a ride if they have not signed up.
  • Students who remain at school and plan to take the 4:15 late bus must be supervised by an adult.

Electric Go-Kart Integration Academy 2023

We are excited to announce our Electric Go-Kart Integration Academy for students interested in a fun-filled, hands-on project involving e-Go Karts and e-Snow Tracks that will take place two days a week after school from 2:45-4:15 pm with Ms. Froisland and Ms. LaRosa.

The goal of this Integration Academy is to provide students with an additional 10+ hours in mathematical learning through a highly engaging engineering design project that will be taught by Essex Tech teachers. The Electric Go-Kart Integration Academy will be run as an after-school program throughout the school year.  Each quarter students will work on building a different electric vehicle.

Participating students need to attend all days of the Electric Go-Kart Integration Academy. We will provide snacks and drinks for students for all after-school sessions.  As an incentive for perfect attendance throughout this after school Integration Academy, students will receive the following:

  • a $25.00 gift card for perfect attendance per quarter.
  • Some really cool Essex Tech swag.
  • Extra credit points added to your quarterly Math grade.  We will prorate Quarter 1.
  • In January and June, lunch in the Bistro.

For interested students, please complete the application here.  We will meet on Tuesday, October 31st from 2:45-4:15 pm in the Integration Learning Lab (E-120). Students will stay two days after school from 2:45 to 4:15 pm and the other day, besides Tuesdays, will be announced on October 31st.  Please note that if you have already had your student apply and been accepted, then there is no need to complete this application.

School Council

As we mentioned in the memo last week, we need to appoint a 9th-grade caregiver representative to the School Council.  Three volunteers have expressed interest.  Per DESE regulations, candidates must be voted into the School Council by our families.  We have created a Google form with information about each candidate.  Please feel free to vote by Wednesday, November 1st.  Thank you to the candidates, we appreciate your willingness to volunteer.

U-Act

U-Act is up and running and will be meeting in Room B-210 on Mondays from 2:45 to 3:45.  Please sign up for the 4:15 pm late bus if needed.

Socktober

The Veterinary Science team is hosting Happy Socktober (www.HappySocktober.com) until Tuesday, October 31st. Happy Socktober aims to provide a new pair of socks to individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Please consider donating a pair of new socks (any style, color, or size) and dropping them in the collection boxes located outside the A-112, A-116, Small Animal Building, Main Office, Media Center, Academy D Offices, and Gallant Hall. You can also give the socks to any Veterinary Science student or teacher. The socks will be donated in November to homeless shelters in Essex County to support approximately 750 individuals in need.

Ali, a recent graduate from the Plumbing program presented at a statewide meeting for workforce development. Ali is currently a student in our NightHawks program. He did an amazing job representing newcomers and vocational education in the state!

A special thank you to our Sustainable Horticulture for the gorgeous flower arrangements that filled the room at last night’s Program Advisory Meeting. Just beautiful!
