Good evening,
Today, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education issued this press release which outlines Commissioner Riley’s request to the Board of Education to be granted the authority to require masking for all schools in the Commonwealth. The Board will vote on this request on Tuesday, Aug 24, 2021. At that time, we will issue updated guidance for the beginning of our school year, including but not limited to mask-wearing and vaccination attestation.
We are pleased to offer another vaccination opportunity for our school community. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine and the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be available at our scheduled clinic on September 8th, 2021.
It is also worth noting that “After October 1, the commissioner’s policy would allow middle and high schools to lift the mask mandate for vaccinated students and staff only if the school meets a certain vaccination rate – at least 80 percent of students and staff in a school building are vaccinated.” (Executive Office of Education, August 20, 2021)
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the ever-changing state guidance to ensure the health and safety of our school community.
All the best,
Heidi T. Riccio, Ed.D
Superintendent-Director
