Weekly Message from ENSATS 11/6/2020

Good Evening Caregivers & Students,

It is sure to be a beautiful weekend! We hope it is filled with long walks, raking leaves, and enjoying the vitamin D!

We want to mention again that we need your help in limiting the social gatherings that your child attends.  We have heard students talking about sleepovers and other social engagements where social distancing is not occurring. Please assist us in keeping our students safe and healthy. Especially when you consider that we are doing everything we can to follow our COVID-19 precautions in school so that we can remain open.  It is important that our students get as much real-time with their teachers and social events jeopardize this.  The amount of live classroom and CTE instruction for students is already limited, and we want to remain open in our hybrid capacity.  Help us stay open and avoid social gatherings!

Here is a quick preview of the schedule for this coming week.

New Information

Activities: Week of November 2, 2020

Please review the following document for information about activities for the: Week of November 9, 2020.

Flu Clinic Interest

In a decision released in August, Governor Baker has required that all students in public schools be vaccinated against the flu by December 31, 2020.  Here is the statement for your review.  We have been working with CVS, and we are planning to hold a free flu clinic for students in late November or early December.  In order to gauge interest, we have created a Google Form.  If you would like to have your child vaccinated during our flu clinic please complete the following form:  Flu Clinic Form

Governor Baker’s Press Release

Governor Baker held a press conference this afternoon. It primarily spoke about the need to have students in school. We believe in this model and have worked countless hours to make it happen. The data has been collected through a study from Brown University. We will continue to follow and update our protocols as new information becomes available. As a technical and agricultural school, we believe deeply that students should be in school learning their trade and the academic content that goes along with it.

Homework

There have been some concerns brought to us regarding homework. While we all have our personal opinion about the need for homework, we have asked our teachers to review the length of the homework assignments and how much time the assignments will take to complete. We know that our students and staff are online and on the computer much more than they were previously and we believe it is important for us all to disconnect.

SAT Testing at Essex Tech

Essex North Shore is pleased to announce to our students and families that we have been approved by the College Board to be an SAT Test Center for the following College Board SAT examination dates: Saturday, December 5, 2020, and Saturday, March 13, 2021.  Access for students to register to test at Essex Tech is now available on the College Board SAT site. Please Note: Registration for these sessions is NOT restricted to Essex Tech students and Essex Tech students do NOT get priority registration. These sessions are open to the public. Registration is first come first serve, and any student from any high school can register to test on our campus.  In addition, capacity for both test sessions is limited due to current social distancing guidelines set forth by both the College Board and the Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. We encourage our students who plan to test on either or both of these dates to access their College Board account as soon as possible in order to register to ensure access to a seat at our location.

Fall Integration Academy Competition!

Through a grant funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, four grade-level teams of students competed on a very brisk Halloween morning on campus by rolling their Teddy-Bear-holding-a-Jack-o-Lantern braking vehicle down a hill to try and STOP in the Candy Zone.  Only two teams were able to do this!  But everyone had fun, and parents came to cheer on their students.  We hope this is the start of a new tradition every October at Essex Tech!

Integration

Isabella Jeune, a Junior from Carpentry, waves hello with her Team Braking Vehicle.
