Dear ENSATS Families,
The Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School District administration is aware that the labor union representing our teachers has been communicating with parents and students regarding the collective bargaining process, so we felt it was important to give you the District’s perspective. Essex Tech and its students are extremely fortunate to have a dedicated, professional, and talented group of educators helping to foster and nurture the next generation of skilled leaders.
Contract negotiation happens every few years, and it is a process that requires commitment from both sides and much direct communication. Our constant focus is on our students and ensuring that our core instructional, vocational, and agricultural programs remain as strong as possible. Our leadership team and labor relations counsel have met several times with HTF Local 1269, and we have discussed negotiation ground rules and HTF contract proposals.
We remain committed to meeting as often as necessary to ensure that a fair contract is agreed upon. We know there is much interest in the ongoing bargaining effort; however, Massachusetts law and court rulings make the actual bargaining sessions largely private so that both sides can have a frank and open dialog. As soon as the contract is finalized, the fruits of our labor will be made public, and we look forward to moving ahead with our strong faculty, staff, leadership team, and student body here at Essex Tech.
Sincerely,
Heidi. T. Riccio, Ed.D., Superintendent-Director
Mark B. Strout, School Committee Chairperson
