Message from ENSATS 9/8/2023

Good Evening Essex Tech Families!

It was a busy week as we began Freshmen Career Discovery. Freshmen have been learning a bit about each of our CTAE programs, Wellness offerings, shop safety, and met our school counselors.

We also want to applaud the many CTAE programs that were out and about working even in the high heat this week.  Great job, Hawks!

Back to School Night

Once again, Back-to-School Night will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023. Here are the schedules for each grade level:

Grade 9 CTAE Exploratory Selection – Wednesday, September 13, 2023

Our Grade 9 Counselors will meet with Grade 9 students on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 during their Freshman Seminar classes to complete the Exploratory Selection process.  Grade 9 caregivers should watch for an email from [email protected] on Wednesday evening to approve their child’s requests.  Caregiver approvals must be submitted by 8:00 am the following morning, Thursday, September 14, 2023, in order to allow sufficient time for our team to schedule all Grade 9 students for their first exploratory cycle.

Student Pick Up and Drop Off

We are asking again if you drive your student to and from school each day. You must drop off and pick up in the back of the building in the EE lot next to the gym.  We are still seeing students being picked up or dropped off in various locations. To ensure the safety of our students, please adhere to this procedure.  In addition, it is much easier to pick up after 2:45 pm. If you would like to pick up your student and avoid the traffic, they can wait in our comfortable, air-conditioned building and you will be able to pull right up to get them after all of the traffic has passed.

4:15 Late Buses

Our 4:15 late buses begin on Monday, September 11th.  The 4:15 pm buses allow students who stay at school for extra help or extra-curricular activities to get a ride home. These buses run on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday only. Please note that there are only eight 4:15 buses, and the stops are in more general locations. Students must sign up for the online bus and choose the stop that is closest to their home.  They must sign up by 9:30 am each morning.

Crosswalks

As a reminder, all students need to be using the crosswalks when traveling back and forth to South Campus. Route 62 is a very busy road and students are much safer in the crosswalk.  Please remind your student that their safety is our number one priority and ask them to please use the crosswalks.

Cell Phone Implementation

We are awaiting the Yondr cell phone bags to begin implementation. We expect them late next week. At that time, we will coordinate the roll-out. When the seniors sign out in May 2024, our grade 10 and 11 students will go through this shift in preparation for a schoolwide rollout in September 2024.

Required Information

Early next week, each family will receive an additional email from us with a SNAP CODE and a link to the Required Information Form. This form will allow you to complete all required documents and signoffs online using one form.  The online form will include:

  • Student Biographical Information
  • Family/Emergency Information
  • Medical Information
  • Directory Information
  • The Student Handbook
  • Technology Responsible Use Policy

We asked that each family complete the Required Information Form by Monday, September 18, 2023.

Updated Calendar

We have made several adjustments and additions to the school calendar over the summer. The most up-to-date calendar is on our website.  If you printed an earlier version, you may need a new copy. Each time the calendar is updated, we will note it in the weekly memo.

Student Council

The ENSATS Student Council is an organization being introduced in the 2023-2024 school year, powered by the Essex Tech student leaders in collaboration with Superintendent Riccio and Principal Donnelly. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the student body and administration to solve issues within our school learning community and to ensure everyone feels heard, included, and respected.  The Student Council will be accepting applications from the Class of 2024, 2025, and 2026. Applicants will be chosen based on their responses to this form and possibly an interview stage. Our goal is to have representation from each career cluster. Please click here to view the application. All applications are due by Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Regional College and Career Fair

Newburyport High School’s College and Career Center will be hosting the Greater Essex County College & Career Fair on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Newburyport High School gymnasium. This is a community event and Essex Tech families are welcome to attend.
