Good Afternoon, Families!

We eased back to school after vacation with the first snow day of the year! We hope that our students were able to get out to plow or shovel for your families and neighbors. As we begin the month of March, we look forward to spring sports, additional students on Co-op, outside projects, and MCAS.

Step-Up for Colleen-5K

In previous years, Ms. Deleskey coordinated an Essex Tech Hawks team for the annual Step-Up for Colleen 5k. We are continuing this tradition, and this is a great event to honor a teacher who had a great future in education, whose life was cut short. Registration is now open, and there is a discount if registered before Pi Day (March 14, 2023). Please be sure to register for the Essex Tech Hawks team. You can register HERE.

Kindness Award

Kindness week is celebrated in April, and the planning is already underway.  If you would like to honor someone who inspires you, nominate them for the Hawks Kindness Award. Nominations will be accepted for any member of the ENSATS community. Any students, staff, teacher, or administrator who exemplify the traits of generosity, teamwork, compassion, and selfless kindness are eligible. Please use the link below to access the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until March 24th.

MCAS Schedules

MCAS English Language Arts test administration for grade 10 students will begin next month. On MCAS days, grade 9 and 10 students arrive at 7:45 am, and the grade 11 and 12 students will have a later arrival. Most importantly, when MCAS falls on a Wednesday, we will begin school at 7:45 am rather than 8:45 am for grades 9 and 10. These Wednesdays are as follows: March 29th, May 17th, and June 7th. We will provide more details about the spring MCAS testing schedule next month.

Essex Tech has partnered with Real Pirates Salem Museum to provide an amazing opportunity for our students. On Monday, February 27th, Real Pirates Salem Museum Director Bill Golden introduces Dr. Scott Herber, who presented to Essex Students an overview of the artifact conservation work he does for Barry Clifford, an undersea explorer from Cape Cod who discovered a pirate ship in 1984 that sunk off Wellfleet in 1717.
