Good Evening Caregivers & Students:

Today marks the end of Quarter 2.  Report cards will be available in Aspen just before February vacation.  With the beginning of Quarter 3 on Monday, February 1st, we will once again change the days that students are on campus.  From Monday, February 1st through Friday, April 9th, grade 9 and 12 students will attend school in person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while grade 10 and 11 students will attend school in person on Mondays and Thursdays.  For specific grade level calendars, please visit the Calendars page of the website.

Pool Testing

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School has the opportunity to participate in COVID-19 Pool Testing through a six-week funding from the Governor’s office. There are additional costs associated with this testing. At this time, we are anticipating these additional costs to be $30K for six weeks of testing.

As you know, we have not had any documented outbreaks or significant community spread in the school. We believe that this is a direct result of the protocols put in place and the hard work of our entire school community.

Please read the Pool Testing Fact Sheet before answering the following questions.

We are seeking feedback from you prior to making a decision. This is dependent on staff availability, determining the benefit of the pool testing, and budget appropriations. Please complete a brief survey HERE.

World Hijab Day

On Monday, February 1st, Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School will celebrate World Hijab Day. The formal, world-wide recognition of World Hijab Day is held every year on this date.  In doing so, we will show support for millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.  Female staff members and students can volunteer to wear a hijab on February 1st. Other students or staff who would like to support World Hijab Day can wear stickers. For more information, please visit www.WorldHijabDay.com.

Schoology

We wanted to clarify that when grades are recorded as “incomplete” in Schoology, they do not factor as zeros in the average.  If these assignments are not made up and become zeros, it will negatively impact the student’s average.

Our Information Technology Department has provided information for caregivers who would like to view their child’s Schoology account.  To access your student’s Schoology progress you will need to create an account following the directions below.

Before getting started creating the account, you will need to log into Aspen to locate your student’s “Schoology Access Code.”

  • This access code can be found in Aspen under the ‘Families’ top-tab, ‘Details’ side-tab, then the ‘Technology’ sub-tab.
  • We suggest copying the code so it can be pasted directly into Schoology when prompted for it and then go to the following link:

https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/201000823-Sign-Up-as-a-Parent

  • Once you have created your account and added your student’s access code, you can review the Schoology Parent Guide below on how to navigate the system:

https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/201000833-Home-Page-Parents-

  • In addition, we have created a video tutorial for parents on how to navigate Schoology that you may find beneficial to watch, which is linked below:

College Financial Aid Resources

In an effort to assist families that are interested in college financial aid for their children, we are pleased to provide you with these resources:

  • Educational Opportunity Center (EOC)

The EOC staff offers free one-on-one advising to help potential students understand the college application and financial aid process, fill out applications, decide what to study, and even transfer to another college. They offer FREE services in both English and Spanish and at this time provide services online or via phone. For more information or to make an appointment, email [email protected], or call (781) 477-2114. We hope you will encourage your contacts to take advantage of this helpful service!

CTE Support

We know that the remote days for CTE can be challenging despite the hard work of our teachers and students. We are working on a CTE Skill Development program during vacations, afternoons, and the summer. More information to follow.

Change to 5:45 Late Buses

Due to the limited number of students that are taking the 5:45 pm late bus, beginning Monday, February 1st we will be running four late buses rather than eight. Any student who needs transportation home on the late bus will still be accommodated.  Please note: Students will still be required to sign up for the late bus by 10:00 am using our online form to ensure that there is a bus traveling to their town.

Hats and Hoods

As the weather has become colder, we have seen an uptick in the number of students wearing hats and hoods in the building.  We understand that winter hats and hoods are needed outside, but want to remind all students that they need to remove their hats and hoods once they are inside.  Thank you.
