Spring Athletics

Dear ENSATS Community,

On April 7th, 2021, the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School Committee unanimously approved the ENSATS plan to run the following Spring Sports: Boys Volleyball, Boys & Girls Lacrosse, Cheerleading, Baseball, Softball, and Spring Track. The official start date of Spring sports is Monday, April 26th, 2021. Please thoroughly read this document for information on tryout dates, times, locations, and transportation.

**Please be aware that FULLY remote students CAN participate in athletics. They will need to secure their own ride to school for practice/competitions.**

IMPORTANT: Carefully read through the document listed below.

SPRING SEASON

Practice/tryout dates will vary. Please see specific sports information below. Your registration must be completed online, and proof of having a physical within the last 13 months is required in order to practice/tryout.

We are always interested in finding new student-athletes.  Please understand that a commitment to a high school athletic program is 5-6 days each week.  Practices are held after school every day and sometimes on weekends and during vacations.  Late buses home will be provided after practice on school days.  If you are interested in participating in a Fall II sport, you should act fast by registering online.

Please note, if a student is scheduled for remote learning for the day, they must secure their own ride to practice/competitions. Student-athletes will not be penalized if they cannot secure a ride. The student-athlete is expected to communicate to the coach that they will not be attending practice/competition on said day.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENT-ATHLETES:

  1.  Water Bottle(s): Players should bring their own water bottle and water as we are not allowed to have shared jugs/bottles.
  2.  Masks: Bring an extra mask every day.
  3.  Hand Sanitizer: Bring your own hand sanitizer to be used in between drills, after locker room/restroom use, etc.
  4.  Student-athletes and coaches will maintain mask coverings and social distancing until departing campus or practice/competition facility.
  5.  Locker room usage after practice should only be necessary for restroom purposes, except for football players who will need to change after practice.  Outside of the lacrosse players, all student-athletes will travel home in their practice/competition attire. Student-athletes that have to change for work or an event after practice/competition may use the locker room/restroom.
  6.  For those student-athletes who take a bus home, they will maintain face coverings and social distance until it is time to board the bus and for the duration of their bus ride home.

Spectators

  • Outdoor competitions: Home team and Away team spectators will be allowed. The overall number of spectators will be in compliance with EEA, DESE, MIAA, and DPH guidelines.
  • Indoor sports: At this time only home team senior parents/guardians and siblings will be allowed due to facility restraints.
  • Spectators will be required to wear a face-covering at all times and maintain social distancing.
  • Spectators may have to sign in and show identification if necessary.

  2. Online registration must be fully completed and submitted;
  3. Current Physical Exam (within the last 13 months) must be received by the Athletic Department.

In order to begin practice/tryouts for any spring sport, you must REGISTER on our website:

  • https://ma.8to18.com/essextech
    • Just click on the “Registration” tab at the top and follow the directions.
  • When you are prompted to enter a student ID number, please enter 11111 in the box.

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School
565 Maple Street Hathorne, MA 01937

Physicals provided to the Admissions Office or School Nurses’/ Health Office for the purposes of school enrollment may not get processed before fall practices/tryouts start.  The Athletic Department encourages families of student-athletes to be sure to directly provide the Athletic Department with a separate copy of the student-athlete’s physical to ensure timely registration for consideration of sports participation.

Payment directions for FREE or REDUCED athletic fees:

If a student has been approved for free or reduced lunch, they are automatically approved for free or reduced ($50) athletic user fees. Parents/guardians MUST sign off and return the “Sharing Information With Other Programs” form. This allows the administration to share your son/daughter’s lunch status with the Director of Athletics so that the athletic waiver can be approved. The form can be found in the athletic office, west academy office, and online (essextech.net) under the “Families” tab. Click on the link to “Free & Reduced Meal Packet.” Print out, sign, and return the last page of the meal packet.

  1. When you get to the last page, which is the “payment page” in the registration process, you will see a box off to the right labeled “Alternate Payment.” Click on it.
  2. It will then ask you for a code. If your son/daughter has been approved for free lunch, the code is “waived.” all in lowercase letters (do not add the quotations). If your son/daughter has been approved for reduced lunch, the code is “discount,” all in lowercase letters (do not add the quotations). Please type in the appropriate code and submit.
  3. The Director of Athletics will then receive an email and will approve the free or reduced payment based on the student’s free or reduced lunch status that is on file with the school.
  4. For reduced payments that are approved by the Director of Athletics, the parent/guardian will receive an email stating that the reduced payment has been approved and they should submit payment for $50(original fee is $100). Once payment is submitted, the student-athlete will appear on the registration list. The student-athlete will not appear on the registration list until the user fee has been paid.
  5. For waived fees that are approved by the Director of Athletics, the parent/guardian will receive an email stating that the request has been approved and the student-athlete is now registered.

Again, under no circumstances will an athlete be allowed to play or practice without these items completed.

  1. User fee(s) must be paid through the online registration process;
  2. Online registration must be fully completed and submitted;
  3. Current Physical Exam (within the last 13 months) must be received by the Athletic Department.

If you have any other questions, please call the school and leave a message on my voicemail (978) 304-4700 ext. 3012 or email me at [email protected].  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

See you soon,

Farah Lalli, M.Ed, CAGS
