New Information

Activities: Week of October 19, 2020

Please review the following document for information about activities for the: Week of October 26, 2020.

The Larkin Gala

Our Annual Larkin Gala to support the Larkin Cottage Building project will be held virtually on December 4th! Find information here about Catherine Larkin. The event will feature Keynote Speaker, Senator Joan Lovely. We are in need of silent auction items. Please contact Bonnie Carr at [email protected] if you would like to donate to the auction.

Student Pick Up

All caregivers who are picking up students at the end of the day should pick up in the gymnasium parking lot behind the gym.  Over the last several weeks, we have noticed that students are being picked up on side streets, at Angel at Essex, and on South Campus.  There are so many moving parts at dismissal, it is not safe to have students picked up at other locations.  This also interferes with business at Smith Hall and Angel at Essex.  As a suggestion, if you are trying to avoid the dismissal traffic, arrive on campus at 2:45 pm or later, when all buses and student drivers will be off-campus, and you will be able to pull up to the Main Entrance and pick up your child. Students are more than welcome to wait a few extra minutes for you.

Important Reminders

As we wrap up our sixth week of school, we wanted to provide a few reminders for students:

  • Students must remain 6-feet apart during mask breaks, while in common areas and classes.
  • Students must wear masks at all times while on campus except during mask breaks.  If students are not wearing masks properly they will be sent home.
  • Students are asked not to lean on cars in parking lots before school or during mask breaks.
  • For grade 9 students exploratory students, please review the “Dress for Success” document in your orientation folders.  For safety, students should not be wearing sweatpants, yoga pants, or hoodies and must wear safety glasses in CTE areas.

Parent Night

We are planning to have a Parent Night on Thursday, October 29th at 6:00 pm.  This will give caregivers the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and learn about class expectations. On our website essexnorthshore.org/virtual-parent-night, you will find instructions to access your child’s schedule in Aspen and Parent Night schedules for each grade. On Thursday, there will also be a list of live Zoom links for each teacher’s Zoom meeting. Here are the schedules for each grade to allow you to plan your evening:

Grade 9             Grade 10              Grade 11               Grade 12

ALICE Training

During Career Enrichment and Health classes the week, our School Resource Officer Michael Chase taught a class about ALICE procedures for 10th and 12th-grade students.  The 9th and 11th-grade classes will be held on Monday and Tuesday. ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.  The ALICE Training Program provides lessons and information for all facets of response if a violent intruder is gaining access to a building.  We will conduct a school-wide drill on Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th.

Information from the Health Office

In order to maintain our home-school collaboration regarding sick or quarantined students.  Caregivers are reminded to keep your child home if the child is:

  • experiencing symptoms of illness including any COVID-like symptoms (see below), or
  • is identified as a “close contact” of a confirmed positive COVID person in their household or personal life.

When a child remains home for either of these reasons caregivers should contact the Essex Tech School Nurses at [email protected] or (978) 304-4700 x 3119 right away to ensure school absence and return-to-school protocols are communicated directly. Students dismissed from Essex Tech or remaining home due to illness, close contact quarantines, or a positive COVID test cannot return to our school and campus without prior collaboration with our school nurses.
