Neighborhood Safety & Parking

Dear ENSATS Families,

Over the last couple of weeks, we have received numerous complaints and concerns about vehicles using Preston Street as a shortcut to our school in the morning and about cars parking on the street. Further, there have been noise complaints, safety concerns, speeding concerns, and disrespectful behaviors from some school community members. Just yesterday, there was a near-miss accident with a motorcycle that could have resulted in serious injury.

It is very concerning, disappointing, and frustrating that this behavior is taking place. We value our neighbors and we respect their right to live in peace. We also need to work together to ensure that our students arrive at school and leave school safely.

Traffic is an unavoidable issue that all schools must deal with; this traffic is not new; this traffic is not going away. If being on time is a challenge for you, we ask that you consider leaving earlier for school; taking the traffic into consideration. We also implore you to follow the rules that we have instituted for safety. All students need to be dropped off and picked up in the back of the building in the gymnasium lot. Students with parking permits need to park only in their assigned spots and obey all traffic patterns on campus.  Students who do not have parking permits are not allowed to park on campus or in surrounding neighborhoods. Our busing is free – please take advantage of this service.

Today, our team was out to inform students not to park on this side street and asking others (not just students) to slow down when driving too fast on this road. It is a residential neighborhood with young families and families that have lived there for nearly 50 years; keeping this neighborhood safe and acting respectfully is our obligation to them.

We are working collaboratively between our leadership team, our student safety team, the Town of Danvers Traffic Department, and the Danvers Police Department to mitigate the problem and restore peace and order to our neighborhood.

We are respectfully asking that you be considerate of our neighbors, show some empathy for them, follow the school’s parking and traffic procedures, and obey the rules of the road.

Respectfully,

Heidi T. Riccio, Ed.D., Superintendent-Director
