Picture Make-Ups

Over the next two weeks, we will have picture makeups for any student that was not photographed earlier this month. Grade 10 and 12 students will have pictures taken on Tuesday, November 23rd and Grade 9 and 11 students will have makeups on Tuesday, November 30th.  We will be sending the link to access photos that have already been taken on Monday, November 22nd.

Uniforms and Exploratory Dress

As a reminder, all students in grades 10 and 12 should be in uniform while in their CTE areas. There are no exceptions to this. We are training the future workforce and part of being a good employee begins now by dressing appropriately and following standard operating procedures. All uniform expectations have been posted since students arrived on campus as Grade 9 students.  This is not new information. If students are out of uniform, they will be sent to the CTE office to purchase an appropriate shirt.  We are able to post-bill families, therefore, money is not an issue.  For Grade 9 Exploratory students, they will be sent to the Assistant Principals Office for clothing. Kudos to Carpentry for sending a student down not dressed for success in grade 9 accompanied by Lindsey from Peabody who modeled the perfect uniform protocol!

We would like to remind our students and families that school begins at 7:45 am.  Therefore, the expectation is that students be in class by 7:45 am.  We have seen an uptick in tardiness recently, especially with our student drivers.  It is important that students arrive on time and are present for the entire class.  As with uniforms, we are training the future workforce and being on time is yet another important employability skill.  If a student has a significant number of tardies, it may also negatively impact Co-operative Education placement.  If a student cannot demonstrate the ability to arrive at school on time, we cannot be sure that this same student will be able to arrive at a Co-op Placement on time.  We are more than happy to help any student work through this expectation with strategies and suggestions if anyone needs our support to be punctual to school each day.

Hawk Holiday Hope

We have begun our annual school-wide community service learning project: Hawk Holiday Hope where students, staff, parents, and other groups involved with the school purchase holiday gifts to children in need through the Department of Children and Families in Salem.  This is a great opportunity to showcase our Hawk Family Pride while giving to those needing our support during this time of year! To learn more about this amazing project, please view this video: Hawk Holiday Hope Video.

Wrapping Paper

We are in need of wrapping paper for our Hawk Holiday Hope gifts.  With just about 200 children to buy for, we will have a lot of presents to wrap.  If you would like to donate wrapping paper, please drop it off at the Main Office by Thursday, December 9th. Thank you in advance.

Citrus Fundraiser

The Class of 2023 is currently holding their November fundraiser. Please take a moment to take a look at the citrus sale info below.  The class has a chance to make a sizable profit if every member is willing to share this information with family and friends.  Items are shipped directly to customers, so anyone in the United States can participate.  We are fundraising now to defray the cost of Senior Week activities.  Please email Mrs. Mills at kmills@essextech.net with any questions. This fundraiser will end on November 30th to guarantee delivery in time for the holidays.  Here is the link to purchase: https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/ecommerce/1025981.

Thanksgiving Food Donations

We have a student and her family who are collecting food for Thanksgiving donations.  If you would like to help, you can donate canned corn, canned green beans, boxed instant potatoes, stuffing, gravy or cranberry sauce.  Donations can be dropped off at the Main Office by Wednesday, November 24th.

Customizable Sweatshirts

We now have customizable hoodies for sale through the school store.  They have your shop name on the back and can also be personalized with a name on the sleeve.  While hoodies cannot be worn in CTE areas, these will be perfect for academic week or outside of school.  They will be ready in time for winter break.

Showcase of the Week:

Veterinary Science students learned how to properly dress (PPE) for X-rays.

Our Arbor program prepared lumber for the sawmill! The lumber will be milled for use with special projects on campus.

Arbor Sawmill

A walk around campus revealed the growth of our apple orchard!  The main campus is in the background. Did you know that our students planted 295 apple trees and our Farm, Facilities, & Grounds crew installed this deer fence to protect them?

Our Integration Academy team winners presented to our School Committee last night at their monthly meeting!  They did a fabulous job representing their programs, cities and town, and classes!  Some of these students were in grade 9!  They worked alongside upperclassmen student mentors to design, build, and navigate a braking device go-kart down the hill near the horse barn and stop by design in a target zone.
