Phase 2 Reopening Plan

The ENSATS School Committee voted on Wednesday, March 3rd to approve the Phase 2 Reopening Plan.  This will allow all students to attend full in-person CTE beginning March 17th.  Students will continue with the hybrid model for Academics.  We recognize the importance of bringing students back to school and have been following Governor Baker’s and Commissioner Riley’s updates for guidance that will help us move forward with this process.

We will continue our social distancing guidelines of six feet when feasible and will use the guidance of the state and CDC related to under six feet when this is not possible. This distance was in our DESE vocational program guidance and relates to students who need to work within close proximity due to the nature of the job function. All other PPE and protocols will continue to be followed.

In order to ensure that CTE programs are ready to welcome two groups of students on Wednesday, March 17th, we will be adjusting the schedule for Tuesday, March 16th.  This will be a fully remote academic day for all students.  No students will be on campus.  Grade 10 and 12 students will attend remote academic classes in the morning and Grade 9 and 11 students will attend remote academics in the afternoon.  Here is the schedule: March 16th Full Remote Academic Day.

MCAS Testing

A formal letter about the MCAS testing was sent to Caregivers earlier this week. As a reminder, grade 10 and 11 students should bring calculators to their math class.  Students need to be proficient with the use of the calculator for the MCAS test.  Many students use a calculator app on their phones, but this will not be permitted during the MCAS test. Here are the dates for the late-May MCAS test administrations for both grades and content areas.

Public Hearing for 2022 Budget

As required by law, we will hold our annual public hearing on the 2022 budget next week. Members of the community may come and speak on March 11, 2022, at 5:30 pm in the Media Center. We ask that you respect the guidance from the state by wearing a face mask. The budget book can be found HERE. The budget was initially approved in February and will go to our towns and cities for final approval. At this time, there have been no reductions that would impact our services to children.

**LAST CHANCE ORDERING** Uniform Store Information

Reminder, our online uniform stores will be open for students through next Friday, March 12th.  Please note that there is a processing period when uniforms are being printed, and these will not be processed until the store closes.  Therefore, the shipping date of uniforms will be approximately March 29, 2021. Any Grade 9 student that has not ordered a uniform, please do so before next Friday.  Any upperclassmen that need new uniforms, this is your last chance this school year to order.  Please note that the store will not reopen until late summer.

“Managing Emotional Health During Uncertain Times” An Essex Tech Family Event for Caregivers and Their Students with Lynn Lyons, LICSW ~ March 15th at 6:00 pm

Lynn Lyons is a psychotherapist and nationally-recognized consultant and speaker from Concord, New Hampshire, who works with children and families to manage anxiety disorders.  Lynn met with our students virtually this week to share strategies to help them manage the uncertainty of our current environment.  She focused on how to increase flexibility, tolerate uncertainty, communicate effectively, and replace catastrophic thinking with problem-solving. We are pleased to bring Lynn’s messages to our Caretakers and their students during a virtual family presentation on Monday, March 15th at 6:00 pm.  To join this event, please visit essexnorthshore.org/familyevents.

Winter Integration Academy

On Wednesday, March 10th, we will kick off our Winter Integration Academy that will run the second and third weeks of March and include two days of after-school work, some remote and some in person, and a commitment of attending two Saturday morning sessions from 8:30 to 11:30 am on March 13th and March 20th.  We still have a few openings if any student is interested in having fun with their classmates as they work as a team to complete a creative integration project that interconnects CTE and Academics and is being developed by teachers who will serve as project advisors to teams.  The project will involve a scavenger hunt and the ability to create and decipher a series of clues hidden throughout the campus.  Bus transportation will be provided after school at 4:15 pm and on Saturdays from 8:30 to 11:30 am for any students needing a ride.  Any student still interested in getting involved in the Winter Integration Academy should complete the Google Form at the following link: Winter Integration Academy Application.  Any Caregiver or student who has further questions about the Winter Integration Academy, please contact Mr. Crofts at pcrofts@essextech.net.
