Derek Chauvin Verdict

Dear ENSATS Community,

Today, Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd.

While many take solace in the appropriateness of this verdict, as we all stood witness to this horrible act less than one year ago, we also know this is a deeply emotional moment in our nation’s long history of systemic racism. We are mindful that today’s guilty verdict comes because of a horrific murder that shook our nation to its core.

We wish to reaffirm to our students that we are here for you, that we value each and every one of you at Essex Tech, regardless of your race, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, ethnicity, country of origin, or any other demographic. We value you as human beings.

Students and caregivers should know, as always, that those with questions are encouraged to reach out to one of the school’s counselors once we return from break next week to discuss this verdict. We encourage our caregivers to have meaningful and honest discussions with their children tonight.

Sincerely,

Heidi T. Riccio, Ed.D.
