Winter Athletics

Dear ENSATS Community,

Essex Tech offers an Interscholastic Athletic Program in several sports and competes in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.  Below is a list of sports that are offered in the winter. Winter sports start on Monday, December 2nd, 2019. Once teams have been selected there will be a winter sports meeting for parents/guardians on Monday, December 9th at 6:00 pm in the main cafe.

Winter Athletic Programs:

  • Boys Basketball (varsity, jv, frosh)
  • Girls Basketball (varsity, jv, frosh)
  • Indoor Track (boys & girls, CAL)
  • Winter Cheerleading (varsity)
  • Boys Hockey (varsity, jv)
  • Girls Hockey (co-op B.Fenwick, v, jv)
  • Wrestling (varsity)
  • Gymnastics (varsity) League-NEC
  • Swimming (co-op w/ Peabody, v/jv)

We are always interested in finding new athletes.  Please understand that a commitment to a high school athletic program is 5 – 6 days each week.  Practices are held after school every day and on weekends, vacations, and sometimes on holidays if necessary.  Late buses are provided for athletes at 4:00 pm and 5:45 pm on school days. Students must sign up for the late bus online before 9:30 am every morning. Students are responsible for their own transportation for scheduled night and weekend practices.

If you are interested in participating in a winter sport you should register immediately.

In order to tryout/practice for a winter sport you must REGISTER on our website:

    • Click on the “Registration” tab at the top and follow the directions.
    • Please note when registering you must open each document and check off at the bottom that you have read and agree to the rules and policy set in place.
    • Pay a $100 user fee online through the registration process. Payment directions for FREE or REDUCED user fees are listed below.
    • When you are prompted to enter a student ID number please enter 11111 in the box if you are unsure of the student’s ID number.
    • Scan and email a copy of the student’s last physical exam directly to the Athletic Department ([email protected] or [email protected]).  In order to try out or participate in sports, students must have a current physical (within the last 13 months) on file throughout the season.
    • Full reimbursement will be given to any student-athlete who does not make the team or decides not to play prior to the first competition.

Payment directions for FREE or REDUCED athletic fees:

If a student has been approved for free or reduced lunch they are automatically approved for free or reduced ($50) athletic user fees. Parents/guardians MUST sign off and return the “Sharing Information With Other Programs” form. This allows the administration to share your son/daughter’s lunch status with the Director of Athletics so that the athletic waiver can be approved. The form can be found in the athletic office, west academy office, and online (essextech.net) under the “Families” tab. Click on the link to “Free & Reduced Meal Packet.” Print out, sign, and return the last page of the meal packet.

  1. When you get to the last page, which is the “payment page” in the registration process you will see a box off to the right labeled “Alternate Payment.” Click on it.
  2. It will then ask you for a code. If your son/daughter has been approved for free lunch the code is “waived” all in lowercase letters (do not add the quotations). If your son/daughter has been approved for reduced lunch the code is “discount” all in lowercase letters (do not add the quotations). Please type in the appropriate code and submit.
  3. The Director of Athletics will then receive an email and will approve the free or reduced payment based on the student’s free or reduced lunch status that is on file with the school.
  4. For reduced payments that are approved by the Director of Athletics, the parent/guardian will receive an email stating that the reduced payment has been approved and they should submit payment for $50 (original fee is $100). Once payment is submitted the student-athlete will appear on the registration list.  The student-athlete will not appear on the registration list until the user fee has been paid.
  5. For waived fees that are approved by the Director of Athletics, the parent/guardian will receive an email stating that the request has been approved and the student-athlete is now registered.
