Career Program Description

Students in Sustainable Horticulture enjoy working with edible and ornamental plant material. Students will gain knowledge and experience needed to manage fruit, vegetable, and greenhouse production systems. A broad understanding of botany, Integrated Pest Management, plant propagation, nutrition, production, and soil science are important. The ornamental side of the house is where students will learn to create marketable floral designs for a variety of occasions, grow and maintain seasonal foliage and flowering plants, and acquire the entrepreneurial skills that will make them more marketable in the ever-changing career landscape. Students can expect to find jobs in local food production firms, the greenhouse industry, retail gardens and nurseries as well as floral design shops.
